Monthly House Price Statistics

Monthly House Price Statistics

The Registers of Scotland (RoS) have just released the Monthly House Price Statistics for August 2017.

RoS have published house price statistics every month since April 2003, and obtains its data from information supplied to RoS with new applications to register a house sale.

The total value of residential property sales in Scotland for August 2017 was £1,790,378,080, with an average sale price of £178,360. This shows a slight reduction on the average house price from July (£178,493) but represents a considerable increase on August 2016 (£169,283).

Closer to home, the average residential sale price in August for Highland region was £184,512, exceeding the national average.

Of course, these are only the figures for one month, but it is always encouraging to see such positive signs. Indeed, the total value of property sold in Highland in August 2017 was £80,262,790, the highest monthly figure for 2017, although again this is perhaps not unusual at the end of the summer holiday period.

However, this is the highest value of properties sold in August since the beginning of the RoS records, superceding the previous highest August amount of £78,650,341 in August 2007, and so it has taken 10 years to exceed the pre-financial crisis sales level.
