CHANGES TO WINDFARM SUBSIDIES TO AFFECT SCOTLAND
The UK Government have announced they will exclude new on-shore windfarms from a subsidy scheme a year earlier than originally anticipated.
Subsidies for on-shore windfarms will now end from 1 April 2016. Projects which already have planning permission will be granted a grace period, however, it is thought at present around 3,000 wind turbines across the UK are currently awaiting planning consent.
This decision has prompted political debate across the UK. The decision to remove the subsidy may well be subject to further challenge and early indications are that there may well be a judicial review of the decision.
We will provide any additional updates if the situation develops. In the interim if you have any queries regarding a proposed turbine development please don’t hesitate to contact Katrina Ashbolt.
