Windfarms & Renewable Energy Projects
The last decade has seen an enormous expansion in renewable energy projects - primarily windfarm developments - across the Highlands and Islands. Such developments offer new opportunities to estates, including crofting estates where the crofters have statutory rights to share in the value of the development.
Macleod & MacCallum can offer both landlords, agricultural tenants, and croft tenants (including shareholders in common grazing land) expert advice on the legal aspects of such developments. We can assist landowners in their negotiations with developers and also provide advice regarding resumption and schemes for development to crofting estates.
Windfarm and hydro developments offer communities, through bodies such as community development trusts, the opportunity to participate in and benefit financially from such developments. Macleod & MacCallum act for a substantial number of community trusts, companies and charities. We are well placed to assist such bodies in negotiating and entering into agreements with both landowners and developers.
We can also assist crofters whose landlord is involved in such a development by providing advice on statutory rights and can negotiate on their behalf with the estate.
Our Rural Land and Corporate & Commercial teams work closely to deliver a high level of service in this field. For further information, or to discuss a proposed project:
