Expansion on the Cards as Economy Revives
12 April 2010
With the worst of the recession over and the Highland economy showing signs of recovery, Macleod & MacCallum, the largest legal practice in Inverness, is recruiting again.
Undoubtedly, the downturn in the property market and housing transactions affected the business during 2008. But with four new members of staff since the beginning of the year and another three positions currently being advertised, expansion is once again on the cards. In particular, our Rural Land Department is an area which is expected to grow over the next 12 months, as clients seek to exploit the potential of renewable energy projects, which are booming with the move away from carbon-based power production.
Graham Watson, who took over as Senior Partner at Macleod & MacCallum following the retirement of Douglas Graham last month, is optimistic about the future.
"We are well managed and we structured the business to survive the recession and take advantage of the opportunities it provided. For example, if house sales were down, we found that lettings increased because people still need somewhere to live. We remained profitable and we are now in a period of stability so we can strategically plan. Business people are trusting their own judgement again and, throughout 2009, the business community here has been active and appreciates the local expertise we provide".
